MCP server for accessing Regen Network's KOI (Knowledge Organization Infrastructure) system with hybrid search, knowledge graph querying, and weekly digest generation
This server has 12 tools with complete input schemas and descriptions, which is a solid foundation. However, there are significant gaps in output schema documentation, error handling guidance, and parameter descriptions. Most tools lack clear recovery pathways when errors occur. Tool names follow verb_noun conventions consistently (query_, search_, get_, generate_, update_). Descriptions are present but vary in quality, some are detailed (search, generate_weekly_digest) while others are sparse (get_mcp_metrics, regen_koi_authenticate). Parameter descriptions are generally good where present, but some tools have parameters with minimal context. The server demonstrates domain awareness (Regen Network, code graph queries, KOI system) but lacks the production-grade polish expected of 70+. Output schemas are not explicitly documented in the provided code, only inferred from tool descriptions. Error handling is notably absent, no guidance on what to do if a query returns no results, if authentication fails, or if the knowledge base is unavailable.
Generate a weekly digest SUMMARY of Regen Network activity. Sources aggregated: Discourse forum discussions, GitHub activity (commits, PRs, issues), on-chain governance proposals and votes, credit issuance/retirement metrics, and community channels (Discord, Telegram summaries). Output: Curated markdown brief with executive summary, governance analysis, community discussions, and on-chain metrics. Use cases: Weekly team updates, stakeholder briefings, catching up on ecosystem activity, monitoring governance. This is a condensed overview - use get_notebooklm_export for full content with complete forum posts and Notion pages.
Get MCP server performance metrics, cache statistics, and health status. Useful for monitoring and debugging. Returns uptime, tool latencies, cache hit rates, error counts, and circuit breaker status.
Get your user profile for personalized responses based on your experience level. Returns your profile including: experience_level (junior, mid, senior, staff, or principal), role (your technical role), preferences (response customization), relationships (who you manage, projects you work on). If you haven't set a profile, returns sensible defaults (mid-level with balanced verbosity).
Get the full NotebookLM export with COMPLETE content including: full forum thread posts, complete Notion page content (all chunks), enriched URLs, and detailed source material. Automatically saves to a local file to avoid bloating LLM context. Returns the file path and summary stats.
Output schemas not documented in tool definitions. Users cannot predict what fields to expect from responses, forcing the LLM to parse unstructured output or guess field names.
No error handling or recovery guidance. Tools lack descriptions of failure modes, what to do if a query returns no results, authentication fails, or services are unavailable. LLMs cannot self-correct.
Inferred effective spec: <=2025-11-25.

Get a structured overview of a specific repository including description, key files (README, CONTRIBUTING, etc.), and links to documentation.
Get statistics about the KOI knowledge base including document counts, data sources, and recent updates
Get technical stack information for indexed repositories including languages, frameworks, dependencies, build tools, and infrastructure. Can show all repos or filter to a specific one.
Query the Regen code knowledge graph to find code entities (Classes, Functions, Sensors, Handlers, Interfaces) and their relationships across repositories
Authenticate with your @regen.network email to access internal Regen Network documentation in addition to public sources. Opens a browser window for secure OAuth login. Authentication token is saved on the server and persists across sessions. Only needs to be done once.
Search the Regen Network knowledge base. Supports: Hybrid search (vector + graph + keyword) with entity boosting, Intent-aware retrieval for better results on specific query types, Date filtering with published_from/published_to, Source filtering (notion, github, discourse, etc.), Date sorting (relevance, date_desc, date_asc)
Search all indexed GitHub repositories for documentation, code, configuration files, and technical content. Searches 23+ repos including regen-ledger, regen-web, regen-data-standards, regen-demos, koi-processor, regen-koi-mcp, protocol-politicians, and more. Use Ledger MCP for on-chain data.
Update your user profile to customize how responses are tailored to you. Allows setting experience level (junior, mid, senior, staff, principal), technical role, and preferences for response format and detail.
regen_koi_authenticate and update_my_profile lack complete parameter schemas. regen_koi_authenticate has empty properties {}; update_my_profile has no schema shown. These require explicit schema definitions.
Tool descriptions are inconsistent in length and detail. get_mcp_metrics (50 chars) and regen_koi_authenticate (65 chars) provide minimal context; search (300+ chars) and generate_weekly_digest (500+ chars) are thorough. Minimum should be ~50-100 chars for all tools.
Destructive tool (update_my_profile) lacks confirmation or dry-run guidance. No mention of what happens if profile update fails or how to revert changes.
Some parameter descriptions are vague. 'limit' in query_code_graph is described only with range; no guidance on what 'maximum number of results' means (per query type? truncated list?). Same issue in search_github_docs and others.
Pagination support is incomplete. Tools like search, search_github_docs support limit/offset or limit only, but no total_count returned in description. Users/agents cannot determine if more results exist without calling again.
Tools that interact with external authentication (regen_koi_authenticate) do not document session lifetime, token refresh behavior, or expiration handling. LLMs cannot reason about when to re-authenticate.
